Just 18′ wide and 110′ deep, 947 Liberty Avenue is a small but complex project in Pittsburgh’s historic Cultural District. The Challenge? To build a contemporary building on a typical Pittsburgh “sliver” site in an appropriate scale for the surrounding buildings. In front, a small courtyard framed by three 15′ sculptures creates a break in the long block. The steel and block building, too small to hold an elevator, is a walk-up with 3 loft units, floor to ceiling glass and spacious sleeping lofts. Dwell Magazine profiled this building in 2004 and The American Institute of Architects bestowed it with an honor award. We love this building and Eve now happily calls it home.
